Wise Registry Cleaner is a free registry cleaning application. In addition to cleaning the registry, you can use this tool to optimize your registry.

Wise Registry Cleaner is developed by ZhiYou Soft Ltd., a company in KunMing City, China. The developers of the tool claim that the application can efficiently detect and repair invalid and obsolete data in the system’s registry. This task makes your system run quicker and perform better. For a totally free application Wise Registry Cleaner does a good job of scanning and repairing your registry.

You need to clean your registry regularly because accumulation of a large amount of junk entries within it may cause the registry to bloat up to a very large size. This eventually makes the registry slow, unstable and prone to errors. A good registry clean up and repair utility, such as Wise Registry Cleaner helps you easily perform a thorough scan of the registry to detect all this junk information and get rid of it.

Wise Registry Cleaner application is compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 operating systems. The tool also works well on Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 computers. Developers of this application have also introduced a paid version, called the Wise Registry Cleaner Pro, which has added features. The paid version comes with a moderate price tag of $19.95. There is no renewal charge for those who have purchased this application after Jan 1, 2009, and others can have their license renewed for a discount of 50%.

Installation And Scanning

This 3 MB registry cleaning application is easy to download and install. During installation, the application asks you to also install a third-party toolbar. You, however, have the option of refusing to accept this. Other than this, we did not face any other issue during the installation.

The main interface of the tool is quite user friendly but pretty mediocre. The left side of the interface lists the areas of your registry which you may wish to scan and repair. The right side displays the results of that scan. The following are the categories you can scan:

You have the option of selecting the categories you wish to scan and repair. However it is always advisable to scan all areas during the first scan. The tool also has an option of conducting a deep scan as well as a normal scan.

As the scanning progresses the number of faults detected is displayed against each category. One good feature this free application has is its ability to identify the entries that are safe to delete and those that are not. This feature of distinguishing between the safe to delete and unsafe to delete entries is quite rare, especially, in a free registry cleaner.

Other than placing an icon on the desktop for starting the application, the tool also places another icon that starts the scan automatically based on the category selections you made at the last scan.

Wise Registry Cleaner has a feature to backup the current registry. This is a good feature for the application of this type, as backups come in pretty handy in case an error occurs during the cleaning process. It is also possible that you, the user, may make an error, albeit inadvertently. The application also creates a Restore Point when it is launched. This option, however, is only available on those Windows versions that ship with the System Restore utility.

Our technical team finds that this free application does a better job, as compared to other registry cleaning applications, as far as detecting the unwanted useless entries is concerned. Wise Registry Cleaner detects obsolete and invalid entries which many other similar applications failed to detect. Eliminating unwanted items is a little less efficient. We had to run the scan twice to get rid of all the errors.

The Free Application Vs the Pro

Both, the free as well as the paid Wise Registry Cleaner Pro, versions support the same Windows operating systems. They also share the same security features of:

Both the applications provide the deep scan option and have the ability to remove Trojans and other spyware from the registry.

The free Wise Registry Cleaner application does not have any System Optimization and Tune up features, such as, optimizing the:

It also lacks in the following features, vis-à-vis the Pro version:

It, however, shares other features such as Built-in Scheduler and unlimited free technical support with its paid version.

Our Verdict

The free Wise Registry Cleaner application provides a restore point only at its first run, and not at any point of time. Some of the obsolete entries are not removed in one go and requires a second run to completely eliminate them. These are the negatives of this application.

The application, however, is quite easy to use and has enough options to make it a good application. The scan can be paused or resumed as and when you require. The tool also has a feature that shows ‘safe to fix’ entries and ‘not fully safe to fix’ entries. The decision, however, is yours to do as you wish. The backup feature, along with these features, is the positive of this application.

The Wise Registry Cleaner cleaning application is easy to use, for both the novice and the experts alike.

We recommend Wise Registry Cleaner to anybody who want to clean up the registry without spending a penny.
