Registry Smart is a registry cleaning application
developed by registrysmart.com. It claims to be the latest 1-click computer
error, diagnostic, and repair tool. According to its developers it can

Registry Smart offers a free scan version that only
scans your system and displays the errors it has detected. You need to cough
up $19.95 for the full version to remove all the errors from your computer’s
system. Registry Smart offers 100% satisfaction and 100% privacy protection.
It is recommended that you first try out the free
version of the tool. This helps you ensure whether the tool works well with
your system or not. Using the trial version also makes it possible for you
to check if the tool is capable of effectively scanning incorrect and
erroneous information from your registry.
User Interface
Downloading and installing Registry Smart did not take
long and went through without a problem. The tool has an attractive Web 2.0
interface which is quite intuitive, simple to use and free from any unwanted
frills. The tool may look a bit amateurish for advanced users but its
simplicity makes it a very good option for novice and non-technical users.
This is because unlike other more advanced tools Registry Smart does not
confuse users with too many options and features.
There are four buttons on the left panel. These
include:

SCAN:
Start registry scan of your PC.

SETTINGS: Customize the tool to work according to your needs.
·
BACKUP:
Make a backup of the registry files.
·
MANAGER STARTUP: Manage
startup programs.
Each of these options and their features are discussed
in details later in this review.
When you click any of these buttons, options related to
them are displayed on the right.
The top panel comprises three buttons:

REGISTER NOW: Enables you to easily register your product so that you
can use all its features.

LIVE
UPDATE: Allows you to download
and install all Registry Smart updates.

HELP:
Enables you to access the Registry Smart help. Although the tool is quite
self-explanatory, if you find yourself stuck somewhere, you may access this
help to search for a solution.
Scanning
Registry Smart scans and detects errors in the
following 14 areas in your system:
- ActiveX, OLE, and COM
- Add/Remove Programs
- Application Paths
- Fonts
- Shared Files
- Help Files
- Startup Items
- System Services
- Drivers
- File Associations
- Sounds
- User Settings
- History/MRU Lists
- Invalid shortcuts
To display these options, you need to select the SCAN
option given on the left panel.
You have the choice of selecting the areas which you
wish to scan. However, we always advise that you scan all the areas, at
least when you are scanning for the first time. Never forget to backup your
registry before you scan it. This is a safe thing to do in case an error
occurs. Through the backup you can restore the registry to its previous
state if something does not goes well with the repair process.
The scan detected a lot many errors than we thought our
system has. You may choose to fix all or just selected errors.
Settings
Registry Smart provides you with different options that
you can modify to make the tool work according to your needs. From here you
may configure the tool to:

Automatically perform a registry scan when
the application is loaded.
·
Automatically download and install updates,
download updates but ask for your permission before installing, or not check
for updates at all.
Backup
The backup option is one of the useful features that
helps ensure that your registry scan and repair process using the Registry
Smart application is safe. You can easily use the backup option that comes
with the application to take regular backups of your registry, especially
before you make any changes to it. If something goes wrong, you can restore
this backup easily with a single mouse click.
Startup Manager
Do you know when you start your computer many programs
and processes automatically load and start running in the background? Many
of these are essential processes required for your Windows operating system
to function as desired. However, there are some programs you don’t actually
want to see loading at startup. These undesired programs not only slow down
the startup process but also are one of the major problems related to
computer slowdowns.
You can use the Registry Smart Startup Manager feature
to have a look at all the programs that load at startup. From this list, you
can check and disable the programs that are not essential for system
startup. This feature also enables you to remove unwanted programs from the
startup programs list.
The Verdict
Although Registry Smart is not an application which can
make it place among advanced computer users, it is a good application for
new and non-technical computer users. The tool is a good option for the
people who want to scan and fix registry problems without getting into the
intricate details of registry structure and manual registry edits.
Some of the users may find removal of this application
a tedious process, but then you may like the software and decide not to
remove the software at all.
Priced economically at $19.95 the tool is 50 % lower
than many similar products.
