The Windows registry contains every single entry you have ever made in your computer. This may run to over a million entries. When you run a registry cleaner through your system, it scans all the information present in it. It also scans your current data and programs, and will alert you and will repair the problems arising automatically. The problems arising in the registry could be from the partly uninstalled programs or from the entries that have been corrupted. It is the corrupted entries, as well as the left over traces of the uninstalled programs, which can lead your computer to crash or at least slowdown your entire system.
The registry cleaner will geneerally automatically check all the problems and fix them (the good ones at least). Their features include diagnosis and repairs of the errors in the registry. The good registry cleaning applications will also have a backup feature to restore your registry, if required. Registry cleaners work by first scanning the registry, which is sort of like the "database" of your computer, then by removing the information that creates errors, bringing your computer back to optimum health.
Depending on the type of registry cleaning application you have selected, it may scan the registry in different ways. Some applications scan the system and report only the errors that are easily identifiable. Registry cleaners, as a rule, take extreme care when analyzing the errors in the registry prior to listing them out, but they do not go deep enough down. There are others who perform a more invasive and deep scan that that will unearth and identify information that is not known. The upside of such programs is that they will discover and unearth errors that were not detected by the type of cleaners previously mentioned. The downside of these cleaners is that they may delete entries that are genuinely required. There are also registry cleaners available that are more advanced than the ones normally available. These cleaners properly maintain the registry as well as the other areas in your computer. Their features include two different types of registry backups – the selective backup and the full backup. Through the full backup feature you get to restore the registry if anything happens to it inadvertently. It could happen while the system is being scanned by the registry cleaner or could be unknowingly caused by the user. In case of selective backups, your system retains all other settings and only restores the information to the places specifically required.
Good registry cleaners also come with a feature to de-fragment the registry, whereby it removes all the fragmented spaces from the registry. Trimming up the registry by removing away the clutter and de-fragmentation of the registry perks up the system and optimizes the registry to its full performance levels. It is advisable that you start using a registry cleaner regularly and frequently from the first day you start to use your computer. This will ensure that corrupted information does not accumulate beyond reason, leading to the crashing of your system. Moreover, with less corruption to handle, the registry cleaner will find it easier to handle the problems that do crop up over time.
