Features  of Free Registry Cleaner

Free Registry Cleaner 2.0 is just what it sounds like - a registry cleaner that doesn't cost anything. Not a very creative name, but it gets the point across.

The Positives

Free Registry Cleaner 2.0 does a good job of detecting and removing registry entries might pose a risk to your computer. It detects most of the invalid entries in your registry, and it helps remove them, irrespective of the risk factor! It is easily installed and is very convenient and simple to use.  This is a very good application to use if you have Windows XP installed on your computer. It detects all the problems you could have with your registry and removes them permanently. The upside of Free Registry Cleaner 2.0 is that it is very easy to use and is absolutely free. It uninstalls and removes the applications and programs from your computer, especially if you have Windows XP.

The Negatives

On Windows Vista, it may not perform as well as it does on an XP computer.  If you have Windows Vista on your computer it may require downloading a particular DLL file from another site. Not all files are removed after you select them, and sometimes they reappear when you next scan your system.   Free Registry Cleaner 2.0 requires using some other free registry cleaner along with it to make it do a good job of cleaning the registry in your computer. However, this is true for other registry cleaners too, as no single registry cleaner can do an efficient job on its own.

Downloading the Cleaner

After downloading and installing the application, it is quite easy to handle. You may have a problem while installing if you have Windows Vista on your system, though. You might receive a message saying that a DLL file - MSVBVM50.DLL – is missing. If you do, this file can be downloaded free from certain available sites. After you download it, you may need to unzip it and the place it in your Window’s system folder.

Creating a Restore Point

You'll want to ensure that the feature of ‘system restore’ is enabled on your computer, as once the application is launched you are required to create a Restore Point that helps you avoid certain problems.  You begin by selecting the areas in your registry that you want to check. The scans can include sections about virtual devices; about the computer and information about its users; references on invalid fonts; Active X; and many other such elements.  You are given the option of selecting which invalid information you wish to scan, and any areas of the registry you wish to exclude in the scan. The list of options is available, and it's easy to handle them.   The time it takes to finish the complete operation depends on the size of the registry and how fragmented it is. The more your registry has old information that is not being used, the more fragmented your registry is. You can edit the entries in the registry and make changes in the value path. However, it's advisable that you don't interfere with the registry yourself, lest it causes other problems.

Uninstalling Old Software

The application can also uninstall any old programs you've had around forever that you don't want to keep on your computer. Along with cleaning your registry, it will remove the installed programs you wish to get rid of. Using the ‘Scan’ option will help remove all trace of programs you wish to uninstall. It's that simple!   Fe registry cleaners do a good job of cleaning the registry on their own. You may be required to use other registry cleaners, in conjunction with this, to be able to do a good job. The same is the case with Free Registry Cleaner 2.0. Though it's quite reliable and does a good job in comparison to other registry cleaners, you may still need to use other cleaners to do a more satisfactory job of cleaning the registry on your computer. Although designed to remove all traces of the uninstalled programs, the Free Registry Cleaner 2.0 still leaves a few left-over areas. There are a number of other free registry cleaners available that you can use with the Free Registry Cleaner 2.0, and you will see the performance of your computer improve.

The Verdict

Free Registry Cleaner 2.0 is a great application if you have Windows XP installed on your computer. Easy to install; easy to run; and easy to work your way through the application. It detects and removes most of the invalid entries in the registry.   It's as good as any other registry cleaner in the market, if not better.  If you're looking for a free and efficient registry cleaner for your computer, Free Registry Cleaner 2.0 comes highly recommended.
