ErrorFix is a registry cleaning application developed
by errorfix.com. It claims to clean and fix problem causing errors in the
registry of a computer’s system. According to its developers, ErrorFix can:
- Clean obsolete files, invalid shortcuts and other
junk data
- Repair Runtime Errors
- Repair Windows Startup Errors
- Remove corrupted DLL files
- Remove Internet Explorer errors
- Correct File path errors
ErrorFix is compatible with Windows operating systems,
such as Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, and
ErrorFix is available as a free trial version as well
as a paid version. The trial version scans and detects the errors in the
registry but to remove them you need to purchase it. The paid version comes
with a tag of $34.95 and has a size of 2.48 MB.
User Interface
Our technical team decided to check ErrorFix cleaning
application. We easily downloaded and installed the application on our test
PC.
The main interface of the application looks quite neat
and well-designed. The main options are neatly placed in the form of 3-D
buttons on the left panel. These options are:

- Prog. Manager

- Microsoft Updates
Scan and Clean
When you select the Scan & Clean options, you get three
additional options to clean various aspects of your Windows system. These
three options are:

Registry cleaner enables you to detect errors in the
following areas and repair them:
- ActiveX, OLE, and COM
- Add/Remove Programs
- Application Paths
- Fonts
- Shared Files
- Help Files
- Startup Items
- System Services
- Drivers
- File Associations
- Sound
- User Settings
- History/MRU Lists
- Invalid Shortcuts
- Microsoft Updates
- Adobe Updates
- Java Updates
The number of errors found is displayed beside each
area. You can click on a selected area and further see the type of errors
detected. Once the scan is complete, you have the choice of selecting the
items you wish to repair. The application recommends that you opt to repair
all the items.
We were impressed by the fact that ErrorFix makes a
full backup of the registry before making any changes to it the first time.
You can create subsequent backups, if you so wish, by using the ‘Backups’
option. We appreciated the fact that the tool allowed us to make a full
backup of the registry with just one mouse click.
ErrorFix Features
As its name suggests, ErrorFix is a complete tool that
you can use to fix several other of PC issues—and not just errors related to
the Windows registry. Let us have a look at some of the most prominent
features.
- Evidence Cleaner – Online and PC activities leave
behind a lot of traces in the form of history, cookies, temporary files,
and Index.dat files on your system. Although it is possible to clear
some of this data, there are always some traces that get left behind.
This left behind data can be exploited by malware and hackers to cause
harm to your computer. Evidence Cleaner helps you get rid of all this
private information with just a couple of mouse clicks and enables you
to maintain your online privacy.
- BHO Manager – Browser Helper Objects are add-on
packages that are plugged-in to Internet Explorer to incorporate some
additional features. Some of these BHOs, such as Google toolbar and
Adobe plug-ins are legitimate and commonly used. However, certain
malicious programs may infiltrate your Web browser and plug-in malicious
BHOs to it. The ErrorFix BHO Manager helped us easily detect and get rid
of these unwanted BHOs.
- Smart Disk Defrag – This option enables you to
easily defragment your hard drive. Disk defragment worked well for us
and we experienced a considerable improvement the performance of our
test PC.
- Startup Manager – A number of programs load
automatically during the system startup. Some of these are essential to
run your Windows operating system. However, there are many
non-essentials that you can easily do away with. ErrorFix Startup
Manager makes it quite easy to disable these unwanted startup programs
and thus helps speed up your computer.
- Uninstall Manager – You can uninstall any program
you wish to from your system using this option. You can access this
feature through the Prog. Manager button on the main interface.
- Backup & Restore – This is a great feature in any
registry cleaning application. Backup is created automatically the first
time you clean your registry using ErrorFix. You can also create manual
full registry backups whenever you wish to. Through the Restore feature,
you can restore any of the previous backups you have created. In case
any mistake occurs when cleaning the registry, the restore function can
bring the registry back to its previous condition.
- Miscellaneous
Features: ErrorFix cleaning application provides the option to block
bad ActiveX objects and keep your PC safe from adware and spyware. The
application also comes with auto scan feature that analyzes the registry
the moment you load the system. This is a good feature, especially for
those who are new to computers. There is also a custom scan feature that
allows a more interactive participation from the user. You have a better
control over the scan as it allows you to select the areas you wish to
scan.
- Customization features: You have the option of scheduling the running of ErrorFix at
every Windows startup. You can also configure automatic download and
installation of ErrorFix updates. There is a feature that allows you the
option of not creating an
automatic backup prior to cleaning of the registry. This is not a good
idea and our technical team does not recommend going for this option.
Our Verdict
ErrorFix has a well designed interface. Its features
are such that even a novice can understand and go through with the
processes.
The application is loaded with several useful features
that enable you to perform a complete maintenance of your Windows computer.
Priced at $34.95 the tool gives a big competition to other tools in its
league.
ErrorFix registry cleaning application does a
satisfactory job and our technical test team has no hesitancy in
recommending this product.
